Can a person who hold the Power of Attorney be held responsible for bills not paid? For example, if you are named the Power of Attorney for a friend so you go about your duties of trying to for the person’s bills,etc. while the other person is unable. Then, if let’s say, there are really large hospital bills the other person has outstanding, can the hospital then go after your own personal finances you to pay the hospital bills since you hold the power of attorney? Or is that a not “allowed to do” on the hospital’s part?

I’ve had a lot of catching up to do financially since I lived off of credit cards for about a month until I started getting paid. I have 2 cards that are maxed out for a total of 3500. One card is killing me in interest (29%). I’m paying all my bills on time and I have decent credit (670 I think). What kind of a percentage can I expect to get for a personal loan around 5000-7500. The reason for the loan is so I can eliminate the balance on my high interest credit card and also look for an engagement ring. I would wait till I get my finances more in order but due to timing I would really like to get that ring soon.

So any information on personal loans, how they work, expected interest rates and so on would be welcomed

A few years ago the NPR radio show, “This American Life” did an episod that talked about a call in radio show. On this show people called in and asked questions about personal finance and debt. The point of the story was that while on the surface people were asking about personal finance, what made the show special was the human connection of people who were in tough straights and striving to be better off.

i am a dancer with no other dependants. i file taxes as an independant contractor. i don’t get paid by the club and have to give them a portion of what i make. Making a living and paying back school loans and credit cards with an income that can be very inconsistent from day to day is very difficult. Being and independant contractor at all takes a great deal of discipline and business savvy. Therefore advice would be helpful.
